So, What on Uji is WOKU?
An extended fictional sci-fi fantasy universe
The World of Korai Uji (WOKU) is an extended fictional universe that you can experience through theworldofkoraiuji.com. Like any other fictional universe, WOKU follows a cast of characters through different narratives - but what makes this sci-fi fantasy different is all the different ways you can dive in.

There are 4 main narratives you can explore; In The Water, Second Testimony, Korainian ERA, and B&R Accounts of The Mother Isles. Each narrative has a unique vantage point to discover the world from. For example, In the Water explores the world from the perspective of one Korainian - Nykia Nykia, a Redscale from The Mid Regions. Meanwhile, Second Testimony follows the same timeline as In The Water - but from the perspective of 21 unique narrators.

And it gets better - because not only are there written stories within each narrative, but also visual records, interactive games and even music. You don’t have to imagine Nykia’s first time at an Aqua Club, you can vibe to the beats along with her. You can see the rainbows that bring Rainbow to tears. Read the pages that informed the records of B & R.

All that and so much more is waiting for you to dive in. Every experience is connected, and the narratives are constantly expanding. Sometimes chronologically, but other times in more mysterious ways. If you want the best experience, we recommend using the reading guide to decide what to dive into next.

4 Narratives, one world
How to get started with WOKU narratives
Every story, piece of music, record, and interactive experience that is part of WOKU is connected to one of the four narratives; In The Water, Second Testimony, Korainian ERA, or B&R Accounts of The Mother Isles. Each narrative is complex and detailed, but not every narrative requires deep knowledge of the world of Korai Uji.

To help you navigate the world from beginner to deep diver, the Narratives are ordered 1 to 4. In The Water serves as the first narrative and an introduction to Korai Uji. Other narratives layer deeper context and greater perspective over a wider period of time.

You don’t have to experience the narratives one by one. For example, there are many short-form stories and out-of-world experiences you can dive into now. However, if you prefer to dip your toes in before making a splash, you can discover each narrative and what it has to offer in the "Get Started with WOKU” guide below.
What is an era?
417 cycles split into 3 eras of storytelling
Having only 88 days in one orbital cycle means time moves differently on Korai Uji. As earthbound observers, we find the entirety of Korainian civilisation can be encapsulated by roughly 500 earth years - which translates into 417 cycles. Within those cycles, you can explore experiences that take place from the very beginning of life on Korai Uji, up until the last narrative concludes.

That’s a lot to dive into! So if you’re wondering where to start, it may be helpful to learn about the different eras of Korainian civilisation.

Just like ancient times to us humans, Korainians have their own Historical Era - followed by a Modern Era, and an Ultimate Era (where all the narratives end). Each era has defined in-world dating. For example ‘MI CAL’, which stand for ‘Mother Isles Calendar’, or ‘BL/AL’ which stands for ‘Before Law’ and ‘After Law’. You can learn about the differences between the two through The World Index, or view them on The Timeline.

ABOUT REGIONS
Modern Uji and its regions
During the In The Water and Second Testimony narratives, the stories and experiences take place on Uji. The sloped and rocky risen land of Uji was a safe haven after a series of natural disasters forced Korainians to abandon the Mother Isles in 111BL. Cycles later, a government formed the colonies that made Uji their home - and eventually split the island into multiple sections of land known as regions.

As organised as expected, The Government of Uji’s Mainland keep up-to-date statistical data on the inhabitants of their territory. Produced by The Statistics and Mapping Department and ordained by The Chief, The Official Map of Uji is re-released every cycle for the record-keeping and strategic planning of Korai Uji. You can explore maps of Uji and more through the links below.

ABOUT scales
The visual distinctions between korainians
The inhabitants of Korai Uji are much like humans in appearance, except for a few key elements. Korainians are ethnically distinguished by their scale. While the Mother Isles (the origin of Korainian civilisation) are known to have been diverse in ways ranging from climate to inhabitants, there are only three kinds of scale on the island of Uji - where most stories of the Modern Era take place.

Whitescales are characterised by their warm-coloured skin, straight blonde hair and piercing grey eyes. Redscales are differentiated by their curly red hair, reddish-brown gazes and deeply toned skin. Finally, Blackscales boast full black hair, deep black eyes and pale sun-blushed skin.

birth days on uji
The seasonal birthing law on Uji
Korainians born on Uji are born all at once, each cycle, on a unique day every cycle. This is called a ‘birth group’. Every birth group shares a birth day, and since Korainians on Uji live until 88 (which is also the number of days in a cycle) they do not share their birth day with any birth groups other than their own.

Roughly 400 Korainians are in each birth group, and they hold a special connection to each other as age mates. This is very different from earth, where a shared birthday is sure to cause some issues! Nevertheless, many Korainians view birth days as a time for camaraderie - especially a 15th birth day. In fact, you’ll experience the pageantry through Nykia and her friends at the start of Chapter One, as they turn adult on Uji.
